Water Treatment Book
Water Treatment Book
series of books i read when i was a kid?
can't remember the name; but i can remember some of the characters and events. here is what i remember: it's set near the turn of the century 19th - 20th in a midwestern or southern state (i think), family with 4 boys, each story is told from the perspective of the 2nd youngest boy. his name (i think, really unsure) is John. all the males in the fam have dark hair, except john's immediate older bro, Tom, who has sandy blonde hair. Tom was sort of a more buttoned-down version of tom sawyer, sort of a schemer. the fam's only punishment was the silent treatment, which john and his younger bro absolutely hated. in one of the books, john purposely gets the mumps so that when his other bros get it, he'll be the 1st to recover (he's sick of always being the last and having to watch his bros playing outside after they're over their illnesses). in another book, the fam gets an indoor water closet and tom starts selling tickets for the other children to marvel at it. all i can remember
If you don't find the answer here you can always try the following website: http://whatsthatbook.com/
It's great. You just give them as much info as you have about the book you're looking for and they do their best to come up with possible titles. It's absolutely free of charge, so give them a try!
Good luck and happy reading!

A Guide to "How is Tap Water Tested For Contamination?"
Have you ever sat and wondered to yourself how is tap water tested for contamination? There must be a way for researchers, and scientists to be able to come up with conclusive results as to what is in our drinking water reservoirs, and how much. After all there have been tens of thousands of chemical agents that have been reported as being present.
There are relatively simple methods for being able to deduce what types of chemical agents that you have present in your water. The problem is that you have to be able to run screens for not only groups of toxic chemicals, but also for the individual chemicals that are within these groups. That takes a lot of time, and effort, as well as manpower to complete.
So far as how is tap water tested for contamination it is done using simple reactive chemicals that test for both the contaminant groupings, and for the singular agents. These reactants can not only tell you exactly what contaminants are in your water, but they can tell you exactly how much of each one is present. This is accomplished by the reactive chemicals changing color.
A reactant will turn a certain color as a result of coming into contact with the chemical that it is designed to seek. How brightly or deeply the color change will give the reader a solid idea of exactly how much of the chemical they are dealing with. This form of testing is very important, especially considering that there are over two thousand carcinogens in our water.
The number of these carcinogenic agents in our water makes it imperative that it is known how high their content is. Here the question becomes not so much how is tap water tested for contamination, but how often is it being tested, and whether or not the numbers that are being recorded are accurate. There have been stories of waste-water treatment facilities doctoring their books so as to stay within EPA regulations.
These facilities are supposed to keep the levels of certain toxic chemicals within the realm of what the EPA has deemed as "safe", but many times it has been found that the levels of these contaminants have been far over those measurements. It is really pointless for them to be measuring the amount anyway, since the equipment that these facilities do not have the adequate equipment to stop these chemicals from reaching your home.
So you know the answer to how is tap water tested for contamination, and you have also been informed that the testing is for naught. So what do you do in this situation since you know that there is no way that the waste-water treatment agencies can offer you protection? About the only thing that you can do is invest in a home water purification system that contains everything that you need in order to keep these chemicals at bay.
Then the matter of how is tap water tested for contamination is not something that you will ever have to worry about.
