Smart Water Filters
Smart Water Filters
Does a wide range of water filters available in the market add to your confusion of which one to buy? Worry not – taking this decision is easy provided you do a little research in this area.
This article intends to provide you with a fair idea of the most talked about water filters. This will not only help you make the decision but also ensure that you select nothing but the best.
There are 3 major categories of water filters:
1. Iron/ Carbon filters – these purifiers are too contaminant specific. For example – iron filter is fairly effective in getting rid of sediments, iron and clay particles from water but when it comes to other contaminants like chlorine, lead, pesticides etc, these filters fail to do justice to it.
This category of filters is more or less obsolete and is gradually getting replaced with the ones based on advanced technologies. You can safely choose to ignore these.
2. Reverse Osmosis filters/distillers – this category of purifiers is the one which is fairly effective for various contaminants including virus, cysts, parasites, pesticides etc. But there are two major challenges which these filters fail to over come.
(i) They perform poorly for contaminants like chlorine and its toxic by-products. Though chlorine is the most common contaminant found in drinking water, the irony with these filters is that they are not able to remove it completely from water. This is a direct threat to our health and can lead to rectal and breast cancer!
(ii) They remove mineral traces found in natural water. Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Zinc etc – all these minerals present in natural water are required for the daily functioning of our body and this category of purifiers is not able to retain them in purified water.
The water produced by them is also known as distilled or de-mineralized and is not recommended for regular consumption.
Due to these two drawbacks, these purifiers are slowly losing out to the latest filters which have been designed specifically to take care of these flaws.
3. Multi Stage purifiers – these are the latest and advanced purifiers which are smart enough to employ a combination of filtration techniques. They provide the best of all worlds – have multiple processing units – for carbon filtration, sub micron filtration and ion exchange.
All these techniques are effective for certain types of contaminants. And when they are used in conjunction, they successfully ensure that practically each and every impurity has been removed with an efficiency of 99+%.
These water filters also retain the mineral content of water. Hence, the water produced is absolutely clean, pure, mineral rich and ideal for consumption.

How do you make ice cubes that are totally clear?
I am 39 years old and this has stumped me for years. We've all seen ice cubes that are cloudy and we've seen ones that are clear. I want to serve my beverages with crystal clear ice cubes. I've searched on this sites for answers, and some say use bottled or distilled water. However, I ONLY use filtered and bottled water (I live in NJ and most don't drink the tap water here) and I have a thermometer in my freezer and the temp is juuuust below zero. Does anyone know the answer to this? A real answer and not just something smart to say? Thanks for your help.
Use bottled spring water only. Aluminum or stainless steel ice cube trays. NO plastic trays. Set freezer to read 10 degrees below zero F. Fill trays to 2/3 full to allow for water to expand properly. Also cover trays with plastic freezer wrap. Do not allow
wrap to touch water in trays.
Also keep an open box of baking soda in your freezer and change it once a month. This way your ice won't taste like other stuff in your freezer.
