The change to the Monterey Bay Aquarium's guide to sustainable seafood comes after commercial salmon fishing had been shut down along Oregon's coast the last two years.

Aquarium And Fish Care - How To Take Care Of Your Goldfish

As a beginner first learning the ins and outs of keeping an aquarium healthy, things can get a bit overwhelming. There is so much terminology and equipment, it is enough to make anyone's head spin. Learning it all a piece at a time is recommended. Patience is key in many things relating to keeping aquariums. A fish often recommended to beginners is the goldfish. Commonly available, and quite pretty when healthy, the goldfish is one of the easier fish to keep healthy and happy. Be prepared to do some reading, however. There are terms and procedures to become familiar with.

The aquarium is absolutely critical to being able to keep healthy fish, no matter what kind of fish it is. Proper care and maintenance of your aquarium is necessary, and there are daily and weekly procedures that must be followed. The first step in keeping a goldfish is choosing the aquarium. While you may see goldfish in bowls and other small containers on television and even in real life, this is really a bad idea. While a goldfish can live for a while in a small bowl like that, they will never really thrive, and will be more susceptible to disease and death. A 10 gallon minimum aquarium with filtration should be the minimum you consider for keeping a goldfish. The filter running into the aquarium agitates the surface of the water and provides more oxygen to the water, which in turn means the fish has plenty of oxygen and is healthier. More room to swim, and even some currents from the filtration, make sure that the goldfish stays happy and in shape. Don't forget to take the number of goldfish into account! More than one goldfish will require more space.

Ask the guys at your local pet store or aquarium shop (recommended) what they recommend. Don't buy too much tank at first though. Try to keep it small and simple. Tell them how many fish you intend to keep, and whether you would like to add fish later. Always do some research before buying a product you are not familiar with. There are a ton of accessories and products associated with aquariums and fish. Doing some research beforehand can keep you from buying products you don't need.

Unless you have access to well water, your tap water probably contains chlorine or ammonia. These substances are very harmful to your goldfish, and can even kill them if you have particularly chlorinated water. There are products available that you simply mix thoroughly into your tap water after filling the aquarium. They usually remove chlorine as well as adding things to the water to help your fish form its slime coat and fight off ick (a small parasite that is extremely common on fish that are stressed). If you would rather use distilled or reverse osmosis purified water, there are other additives that restore needed minerals into these too-pure waters.

Make sure you check the filters once a week, and rinse them out with dechlorinated water of some type. It is okay to use distilled water for this. It is common to get snails living on your filters. Try not to crush them, and remove them during your weekly cleaning. It is not recommended that you put these types of snails back into your aquarium, because they tend to over-breed and eat every bit of plant matter in your aquarium.

It is also necessary to keep the aquarium at a fairly constant temperature. An aquarium heater can be used to control the water temperature with some precision. You should also have an aquarium thermometer to verify the water temperature.

Filter System Aquarium

What should be the most cost effective filtering system for my fresh water aquarium of size 4'(L)/2'(W)/3'(H)?

I am going to make an aquarium for my home of the above size next month. Pl. suggest me the most cost effective filtering system for it.

Your tank is approximately 179 gallons...you'll need multiple canister filters for a tank this size, or one huge strong one.

I'd recommend 2 Rena Filstars XP3: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/199505/product.web

Or, for a complete filtration system, you could get the Fluval FX5: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/215445/product.web
But that's VERY strong...

Freshwater Aquarium Filters And Filtering Methods

Regular cleaning must be performed to maintain the cleanliness of your freshwater aquarium. Your aquarium can accumulate wastes over some period of time.  These wastes can be left over foods, dead small fish, dried leaves and others that must be removed to avoid further decay and contamination.  Manual cleaning is often practiced but there are techniques and methods which could make your cleaning process easier.

What is Filtration Method?
This is one method of cleaning the aquarium through using filtration media and has 3 types namely; biological, chemical and manual.  These 3 types have its distinct procedures of filtering the dirt inside the aquarium.

Biological Filtration
This is the kind of filtration method which uses a special kind of bacteria to convert several substances that can go through with the water.  These good serving bacteria will then break down toxic substances found in fish tank into less toxic ones.  These harmful and toxic substances are ammonia and nitrites which can bring hazardous effects to living things inside the aquarium if they are not properly removed.

Chemical Filtration
Synthetic substances are mixed with the waste materials to easily flush them out together with the water.  Activated carbon is commonly used in chemical filtration making it easily dissolved and flushed out through its filter.

Mechanical Filtration
This type of filtration method involves the use of filtration media to trap solid waste particles in the water. This can be manually done anything that can hold the waste materials can be used here.  This is the least costly type of filter and can readily be available when needed.  This kind of filter must be replaced in determined time interval.

The filtration process made easier through using filters.  There are a number of filters which can be used in any filtration methods you may want to select.

Power Filters
They are the most common type of filters mainly because they are cheap and can be bought almost every local hobby shop you can find.  Power filters are easy to install easy to use and maintain that is why many would like to use this filter for most of their filtration needs.

Canister Filters
This filter is not quite easy to maintain and use, though it has bigger cleaning advantage than any filters do. This is heavy duty type of filter exerting much force so that wastes can be flushed out faster.  Canister filters are also more expensive thus many would not prefer to use this especially those budget conscious people.

Corner Filters
A corner filter provides the most basic filtration in an aquarium.  These are one of the most familiar things a hobbyist acquires when starting to build his first freshwater aquarium set up.

Sponge Filters
This type of filters makes use of a sponge to filtrate organic wastes from your aquarium. Oftentimes they are considered simple, effective and cheap. This type of filter is ideal for water tanks that have small fish or fry as it can absorb almost anything.

Fluidized bed filters
This is a relatively new type of filter today that uses sand in the filtration process.  This is highly efficient biological filter which make sand as the filter media.  The sand will slowly moves the bacteria as it moves outside the filter.

It is important to know and search on this information about filtration method and the different types of filters so that it will be easier to clean the aquarium since proper filtration system handles maintaining the cleanliness inside your freshwater aquarium.  Basically these information that has just been presented can give a more positive result in your freshwater aquarium keeping.

Happy Aquarium - Make More Coins

In a game like Happy Aquarium, the goal becomes almost immediately to gain as many coins as you can as quickly as you can. The higher level fish cost an arm and a leg, but they also reward you for your efforts many times over. If you're serious about getting those high level fish so you can upgrade your income levels though, you need to spend some time developing your coin count so you can upgrade tanks, buy your three sub-tanks and get all the fish into them you need to keep exploring the upper reaches of the game.

The Role of Happy Aquarium Coins

The coins in Happy Aquarium are designed to help you buy just about anything you need. You'll get the coins for clicking on your treasure chest each day (and there is a chest in each tank), for selling your fish, for running through the training course and for selling items that you get as gifts or that you don't need any more. As a result, you will be able to get quite a few good coins for your efforts if you are willing to do as many things as possible each day when you login.

Getting as Many Happy Aquarium Coins as Possible

There is no daily maximum in coins on this game. If you have a lot of friends for example, you could get 20 coins per visit to each tank of your friends. That can add up very fast. The totals will start to rise towards 400 and 500 coins a day if you have enough friends and that is being rather conservative. Toss in the fish you can sell and you can make upwards of 2,000 coins a day there plus the coins from training and beyond.

The real question on your coins is how many you need. For the most part, the decorations you buy will not matter so much as being able to buy higher level fish and upgrade your tanks as you get to higher levels. Once you hit Level 42, you'll want to be able to buy the high level 1000+ coin fish that will resell for a 100 coin profit each time.

The thing about Happy Aquarium coins is that they are not necessarily hard to get. But, to get the amount you need to be truly successful in a game like this, you need to spend some time and energy developing the right strategies, choosing the right fish, and logging on each day to complete the laundry list of tasks set to you by the game. This is a chore in and of itself. If you can master it, you'll be well on your way to success, but only if you can do everything correctly.
