Good health is important for both physical and emotional well being. Being healthy means that your body and mind function as they are supposed to. In fact good health is necessary for longevity. So, you should avoid ill health. To remain healthy, one of the important things you have to do is that you have to drink lots of pure water. The importance of water in our life can be known from the fact that over 70% of our body consists of water. There are many types of water filters available in the market. One of the popular kinds of water filters for domestic use is the whole house water filters.

The benefits of whole house water filters are immense. By filtering all of the water that enters your home, you not only enhance the healthfulness of your household water but you also dramatically improve your indoor air quality. And if you look into one of the reports of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it says, “Every home in America has an elevated level of chloroform gas present due to the vaporization of chlorine from tap and shower water.” Chlorine vapors are thought to be one of the causes of respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis and allergies. If filtered water is consumed regularly, it will surely improve every aspect of your family’s health.

The whole house water filters removes chlorine and other chemical tastes/odor plus dirt/sediments making water cleaner, clearer and safer for your whole house. This filter has even the ability to remove chlorine from the water used in dish water; in the process it prevents chlorine vapors from being released into the air and reduces soap scum on dishes. In addition, it also protects your appliances, fixtures and pipelines. These premium whole house inline filters are usually placed in the main water line entering the home and generally have capacities to filter 10,000 - 100,000 gallons of water before you have to change the cartridge.

To sum up, it can be said with confidence that whole house water filter is the only true effective filter. It filters water at even low temperatures to facilitate the removal of chlorine and other chemicals. Enjoy every minute of your life with whole house water filters!

A very good question, "are water filters important?" In today's society, life is very fast passed, so much to do and so little time to do it. Between work, family and all the things in between, we sometimes overlook the simple things that can make a big difference in our lives. Most people are health conscious these days, we try to eat right and exercise and drink a lot of water, which is good. But most of the time, people end up buying very expensive bottled water and don't realize how much they are really spending, a bottle here, a bottle there, it adds up quick! There have been reports that bottled water isn't even all that good for you, having impurities and even toxins from being stored in plastic. There is an alternative to this highly expensive way of getting our drinking water and that is finding a good water filtering system.

When you take the time to look at what options exist for filtered water, you will see that it isn't all that complicated to figure out and you will save a lot of money compared to what you spend on bottled water. Some people get scared when thinking of purchasing a water filter system. Maybe the price of the unit seems too high or the thought of having to install the unit and then do the maintenance turns people back to the easy way of just throwing their money away on bottled water. Let us examine this further and see if that way of thinking really makes sense or if purchasing a good water filter system is the way to go. We will ask the questions: How do know what unit is the best for my situation? What are the costs of owning a filtration unit and how will it save me money? What are the benefits I will receive from using water filtration over tap or bottled water? Are there different types of water filtration? We will look at these questions and see that the difference is great and filtering your water is the way to go.

First, there are many different water filter manufacturers out there and it is important to find an established company that has a good reputation. Since there is such a great push to being healthy and drinking plenty of water, there are many companies getting into the market and copying what good manufacturers have already put out there. A little research will help you to know the difference. Once you have found a good water filter company, it's just a matter of deciding what you want out of your filtering system. Do you want to filter all the water coming into your house with a whole house unit, or just filter at point of use, such as the kitchen sink using a counter top water filter unit or faucet filter, maybe a shower filter or a combination of filters. Regardless of what you want to filter, a good water filter manufacturer will have what you need and be able to walk you through the process.

The cost of owning a water filter system can vary quiet a bit depending on the type of set up you want. Some people just want filtered water for drinking and cooking, in that case going with a counter top or under sink water filter unit is a good way to go and there are many variations to choose from ranging from around fifty to a couple of hundred dollars. If you are just looking to filter your shower water, there are very good shower filters at very reasonable prices, most around thirty to fifty dollars. A lot of people are looking to filter all the water coming into their house; this is called point of entry. There are many types of units for this purpose and a lot depends on the home you are putting the unit in, such as what type of water comes into the house, well or city water. Also, how big the house is, number of bathrooms and so on. These units can range from as little as a couple of hundred dollars to a few thousand. The money you will save by purchasing a water filter system is great! You will have an endless supply of clean filtered water for only pennies a gallon, the water filter will pay for itself in no time when you add up all the wasted money on bottled water. A whole house water filter unit can save you an untold amount of money by protecting your water pipes and all the appliances that use water by keeping sediment, lime and calcium build up and rust out of the system.

Other benefits of filtered water over tap are many. Of course your water will taste better and be healthier for you by taking out the chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals that are added to city water, but there are even more benefits to talk of. A good shower filter will make your skin and hair softer and smoother, good for people with sensitive skin or allergies. The human body is made up of over 70 percent water and showering in unfiltered water allows the body to absorb harsh chemicals like chlorine and THMs that are harmful and the steam from using hot water causes chlorine to be inhaled if no filter is used. Also, your clothes will be brighter and softer especially if used with a water softener.

There are different kinds of water filtration, the most popular are a system that uses filters or a reverse osmosis unit. A traditional water filter system has the most options of filtration as there are sediment, carbon, fluoride and media packed cartridges. It is important to use a filter that has GAC (Granulated Activated Carbon), KDF-85 and KDF-55. It is easier to develop a system that will best suit your needs. Reverse Osmosis water filter system usually will cost more and does have some limitations. It requires more maintenance and is limited to a certain amount of water it can produce per day and may end up wasting more water than it produces. Although, many people say that the water has a better taste and this is because reverse osmosis water filter system also removes dissolved mineral contents which can cause a bitter taste in some water.

A water filter system can greatly affect your life in many positive ways, most importantly by giving you better health, it will also save you lots of money from purchasing bottled water and keeping your pipes and appliances in good working order.

Shower Filters - Simple Solutions For Safer Showers

Some shower filters are a waste of money. Other shower water filters are safe, effective and affordable. What you don't know can hurt you. So, read this article.

They entered the market as a cosmetic device. They were promoted by beauty experts and some of the first models actually carry a hairdresser's name. Those shower filters were designed to remove chlorine, because it damages your hair and the appearance of your skin.

People who are allergic to chlorine needed shower water filters to protect themselves from rashes and/or breaking out. The substance is present in practically every publicly treated supply in the world, yet it is not the most deadly of the contaminants in our public supplies.

It dries out hair follicles, strips the skin of its natural oils and changes hair color, but it probably does not cause cancer. On the other hand, the byproducts created when it reacts with bacteria and other aquatic life-forms do cause cancer. These byproducts are even created when it reacts with bacteria on the skin, while you are showering.

The research supporting these statements was released early last year. But, the research was completed many years ago. Respected publications did not want the public to know. They felt there would be a call for the end of chlorination...or at least, that's what they said.

They probably didn't want anyone to say that public facilities need to come up with another approach for disinfection. That would cost a lot of money, since there is no technology available that does not create disinfection byproducts. Personally, I think that everyone needs shower water filters in their bathroom and purifiers on their kitchen faucet.

When you are reading a product performance guide, disinfection byproducts are typically listed as THMs or trihalomethanes. When you are reading the water quality report provide by your local facility, they are listed as TTHMs or total trihalomethanes. You see, there are a number of different compounds that are released during the disinfection process, so they group them together.

Most shower filters on the market reduce chlorine by about 50%, but they do nothing to reduce THMs. This is a necessary step for shower water filters because the compounds become airborne in the bathroom and build up in the air system of your home. You are probably inhaling carcinogens, while you are reading this, if you have not already installed effective shower filters.

These carcinogens are also absorbed through the skin. The latest studies indicate that exposure is greater in the bathroom than it is in the kitchen. They used to say that drinking them was worse, but now we know differently.

Be advised, those expensive shower water filters made by Wellness provide effective contaminant removal, but they cost a lot more than necessary. Instead of paying over $200 for a system, you can get an effective one direct from the manufacturer for around $67.

That's what you need to know about shower filters. If you shop with care, you can protect your long-term health.

Chlorine Shower Filter Protecting Your Skin From Harmful Chemicals

When moving into a new or different house people very seldom check the showers to see if there is a shower water filter. They assume that, as long as everything is working, there is no cause for concern. This is in error. One of the first things that should be attended to is a filter for every shower in the home.

Chlorine, a chemical commonly used in public water systems and swimming pools, is a very strong disinfecting chemical. It is not only used for this purpose but also for making very strong solvents used in disinfectants, dry cleaning, metal degreasing and other processes that require an extra strong bleach agent. It is actually a form of toxic gas that can cause many health problems including irritating the respiratory system if a person is accidentally exposed in certain situations.

Although Chlorine is added, in a very measured amount, to the water supply it flows through the entire house, including the shower. Contact between this chemical and the human body has shown to cause problems and should be avoided whenever possible. Since the most water contact occurs in a shower, shower filters are an excellent way to prevent this unwanted exposure.

As a very strong chemical chlorine can change other materials present in the water to an unnatural state. This changes the chemical makeup of the water and can cause problems from these other materials as well. These problems occur not just in the drinking water but also in the shower itself. The body is more exposed to chemicals while bathing than it is in actually drinking the water.

At the end of along hard day there is nothing more satisfying than standing for quite some time in a hot shower. It is comforting and relaxing. What is not realized is that one is breathing in vapor (steam) which is loaded with Chlorine. This chemical is entering the nose, lungs, throat and pores of the skin. This penetrates the body on all fronts and can lead to headaches and other health problems.

Complaints regarding showering with Chlorine in the water include dry and brittle hair, change of dyed hair color, dry finger nails and skin. The 'bleach' in Chlorine removes the natural body oils which keep these parts of the body in tip top condition. This causes the hair to break easily, cause flaking skin and broken fingernails.

There are a number of different types of shower filters. More commonly they are an activated carbon filter, a carbon resin or filtration membranes. Some companies combine two of these types into one filter. They are designed to allow the water to flow naturally but at the same time remove the impurities. This allows the person taking the shower to still have the strong flow of water without the impurities.

Placing a filter in the shower head is relatively easy and can be done by the average homeowner. When these filters wear out they are very easily replaced. Replacement of a water shower filter should be as often as one changes the batteries in their smoke alarm system. Both are essential for safety of all family members.

A Guide to Shower Filters

Well made shower filters are some of "the most unique and beneficial products ever developed", according to Ranya Alexander, PHD, MD. A large number of doctors would agree, because shower water filters are helping their patients who suffer from asthma and other respiratory conditions. Here's the latest info.

Shower filters have become increasingly popular over the last 10 years, because of the numerous cosmetic benefits. Millions of people around the world have taken the next step towards better health, hair and skin.

Most people notice the difference in their skin and hair after their very first shower. Well made shower water filters remove chlorine and other chemicals that dry out the hair and skin.

Anyone who has ever been in a chlorinated swimming pool knows that chlorine has a harsh drying effect. Regular swimmers must use specialized moisturizers and conditioners, but their skin and particularly their hair still suffer from the damage. For professional athletes, dry skin and hair may be unavoidable, but not for you.

By taking the chlorine out, shower filters allow your skin and hair to retain their natural oils and moisture content. You skin will feel softer and look younger. You will find that you need less moisturizers and conditioners.

The cosmetic benefits alone make shower water filters attractive, but recent studies indicate that there are health advantages, as well. Inhaling chlorine vapor triggers asthma attacks. That's a well know fact. But, new studies concerning additional health risks of inhaling chlorine continue to surprise us.

The American Journal of Public Health published the results of their 10 year long study concerning chlorine and cancer. The results showed that there is an increase in certain types of cancer (including bladder, breast and rectal cancer) among people with chlorinated tap water. The researchers said that 2/3 of the harmful exposure was caused by inhaling chlorine vapor that exists in the steam from the shower. The only way to protect your body from that exposure is with shower filters.

Not all shower filters are the same. Some use a single activated carbon filter. Some use a multi-stage system. Of course, the multi-stage system shower water filters block more of the chlorine and other chemicals than the single stage units. It just makes sense.

The EPA recently released a report that said virtually every home in America has a detectable level of chloroform gas in the air due to chlorinated tap water in the shower. Chloroform gas is one of the by-products of powdered chlorine.

You may know that doctor's commonly used chloroform to put patient's to sleep, until safer methods became available. Inhalation can cause dizziness and fatigue, at even low levels. It was also commonly used as a refrigerant in air conditioning units, but since we have learned that it contributes to ozone depletion, other more environmentally friendly chemicals are being used.

It all comes down to one fact; shower filters are good for your health, your family's health and the environment, in general. Remember to look for a multi-stage unit to get the most benefit.

  • WHY IS SEA WATER VERY HIGH IN SALT CONTENT?

The average salinity of sea water is about 3.5%. One cubic mile of sea water contains 166 million tonne of salt. The salts of the sea come from the breaking up of rocks and gradual wearing away of mountains releasing salts that are washed down by rainwater. It is estimated that more than 400 million tonne of dissolved salts are brought to the sea every year by 27,000 cubic km of water. The second source of salt is rocks beneath the ocean bed. There has been a constant slow addition of sea salinity due to evaporation from the ocean surface, combined by discharge from land.

Thigmotropism is the growth of a plant around a support. Tropism is a phenomena by which a plant, usually climber like money plant and ivy, responds to a stimulus. Stems of the pea plant, for instance, are weak and have coil-like structures called tendrils. When tendrils approach a support (stick), a phytohormone called auxin is released in the side of the tendril away from the support. Auxin, a growth hormone, elongates the cells of that portion and makes it strong. The other portion, devoid of auxin, becomes weak and coils around the support.

  • WHY DO THE EYES OF SOME ANIMALS GLOW IN THE DARK?

  • WHAT IS UNBREAKABLE GLASS MADE OF, AND IS IT REALLY UNBREAKABLE?

The presence of micro cracks on the glass surface (called Griffith's micro cracks) makes glass breakable under tension or impact. Such micro cracks are unavoidable as the glass surface comes under tension while cooling from a high temperature into various shapes. However, one can increase its impact resistance by various methods, so it can withstand even the impact of a bullet. The idea is to remove the surface micro cracks by chemical etching, or putting the glass surface under compression by physical or chemical toughening. One can even laminate two such toughened glass plates with resin in-between. These glasses are unbreakable, but when the threshold value is very high, it eventually breaks or cracks.

  • WHAT IS UNIVERSAL TIME COORDINATED?

Universal Time Coordinated (UTC) is a time standard based on International Atomic Time with leap seconds added at irregular intervals to compensate for the Earth's slowing rotation. A leap second is a positive or negative one-second adjustment to the UTC scale that keeps it close to Mean Solar Time at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. The difference between UTC and Mean Solar Time is not allowed to exceed 0.9 seconds, so if high precision is not required, the general term Universal Time may be used. Time zones are expressed as positive or negative offsets from UTC. While each day contains 24 hours and each hour 60 minutes, the number of seconds in a minute can be 60,61 or 59.

  • HOW DO SENSOR DOORS WORK?

Sensor doors use motion sensors or presence sensors. The first are used to activate the door when it detects a moving object, such as a pedestrian or shopping cart. Motion sensors can distinguish between objects moving toward the door or away from it. They use microwave technology and utilize the Doppler Effect principle. The sensors emit a high frequency microwave signal — when the wave encounters a moving object, it bounces back and its frequency changes in proportion to the object's speed; Presence sensors detect both moving and non-moving objects in the path of the door. Presence sensors use infrared technology — they emit an invisible pulsed light signal. The receiver looks for the reflected signal and reacts.

  • HOW IS THE HEIGHT OF WATER TIDES PREDICTED?

As astronomical data is not sufficient to calculate tides, predictions are also based on actual tidal measurements in many areas, over ah extended period. A network of tide stations is equipped to take the following measurements every six minutes: tide levels, wind speed and direction, water current speeds, directions, air and water temperatures and barometric pressure. Stations that provide these daily predictions are called reference stations. Other stations are subordinate stations, which obtain predictions by applying a specific formula to this data. The formula is derived by observing how tides at the two stations related to one another in the past.

Refrigerator Water Filters

Here is a list of the top 7 types of water filters you can purchase on the market and information about each one. Hopefully this will help you make a decision when purchasing your next filter.

1. Pitcher

2. Faucet

3. Refrigerator

4. Under Sink

5. Shower

6. Laundry

7. Whole house

Now to take this further, I will describe each a bit.

The Pitcher filter is great if you just want to drink a good glass of clean water and are really not worried about the tap water for anything else in your home. With these you have a specially made pitcher with a filter at the top and you have to pour water in slowly and it filters this through to the bottom of the container. It may take 10 minutes or so for this to complete its process.

The Faucet filter I have found to be very popular, especially with families who have children. This attachment hooks up to the faucet spout and you have the choice to turn the filter on to dispense cleaner water or turn it off if you do not want to waste the cleaner. The only issue some families did not care for was that the pressure coming from the tap is diminished because it must go through the filter and process before coming out so I would say you get half of the pressure. Also it is a bit cumbersome and takes up space around the faucet and is a little unsightly if you are wanting a kitchen that looks designer beautiful.

The Refrigerator filter is becoming more popular as families purchase refrigerators with water and ice dispensers on the door. This hooks up inside the door and helps produce better tasting ice as well as water.

Under sink filters are great to have as a full kitchen use. It keeps clutter from being on top of the counter or faucet, however, it usually required a professional installation and you will have to give up some room under your sink cabinet to make space for this larger item.

The Shower filter basically allows you have have a bath free of contaminants. These are less common and people will usually get a whole house filter if they want good water in their bathrooms.

The Laundry Filter again is like the shower model information in that the whole house choice will usually be used. However, families find that they like to use cleaner water free from hard water deposits on their clothes.

The whole house filter is the next big upcoming appliance that families are automatically having installed in their homes when they are building a new home. It is somewhat of a no brainer that they can have great water and why not do it now while they are installing everything else.

Under Counter Water Filter

All the doctors and nutritionists, all the diets and the fitness instructors tell us to drink as much water as possible, the minimum of liquid consumed during a day being at least 2 liters. And then we hear from the environmentalists and other government organizations that water is contaminated with all kind of bacteria.

The thing that makes drinking water safe is the water filter. Drinking water filters are available now in many forms and using different technologies. The main goal of the drinking water filter is to make the tap water or almost any other type of water safe for drinking.

There are several types of drinking water filters. Some of them are portable ones like for example the water pitcher filters while others need to be attached to the water pipe. Each of them comes with pros and cons and because of the large variety of drinking water filters available on the market it is important to decide the kind of water filter you want.

It's not only that there are drinking water filters available on the market, but also shower filters systems and whole house water filter systems. The drinking water filter is by far the most popular one and is available as portable filter, counter top filter, under counter filter, and faucet mounted filter.

The most popular ones are the charcoal water filters, the ceramic water filters, the reverse osmosis filters and the Ultraviolet water filters. All the filtering systems have cartridges and filters that need to be replaced from time to time, and need to be cleaned.

As in any other market there are several manufacturers, but you are the one that should decide which one is the best for you. If you want to have purified water in your entire house than obviously the best choice is a whole house water filter system. However these systems are somewhat expensive and their maintenance is not very easy either. Nonetheless with such a system you will have purified water in the entire house because the filter system is connected to the pipe before it enters the house.

The cost of a drinking water filter ranges from inexpensive to pricey, but again it depends on the technology used and the amount of water that can be purified. A small water filter will probably be enough to supply your house with drinking water, but more and more people like to have the water they cook with purified too.

Counter top and under counter water filters seem to be good both at giving enough purified water to drink and cook as needed. And while the counter top water filter is easier to install and does not require extra plumbing work, it is usually cheaper than the under the counter water filter.

So if you have enough space on the counter and you only want to have drinking and cooking water, you can definitely choose a counter top water filter. The main disadvantage of a drinking water filter is that you need a filter for each faucet where you want to have drinking water.
