Do You Really Need Pure Water Distillers?

Pure water distillers use a lot of energy.  They are costly to purchase and difficult to maintain.  While everyone could benefit from a good home purifier, distillation is an outdated choice that solves few of the problems faced by the typical homeowner.

The problems are the contaminants commonly present in publicly treated supplies, even after professional treatment.  Those contaminants include parasitic cysts, traces of lead, chemicals like pesticides and herbicides, as well as chemicals introduced at the treatment facility to kill bacteria and other living organisms.

I couldn't be the only one to realize that human beings are living organisms.

If something kills a wide range of living organisms, it could not possibly be healthy for humans to ingest it.  Yet, we consume things like that all of the time.  We shouldn't have to drink them by the glassful.

A good home purifier will remove the parasitic cysts, the traces of lead and all of those chemicals.  The pure water distiller was designed to remove naturally occurring contaminants such as lead, living organisms and minerals.

Distillation has been available for over 2000 years.  It cannot possibly deal with man-made chemicals.  Chemicals become airborne and travel along with the steam to a collection pot.

Distillers use a lot of energy, because of the high temperatures necessary to vaporize a large amount of liquid.  Other home purifiers use a lot of energy, too.  For example, all reverse osmosis systems require the use of electricity to power the pumps.  If you want to make a "green" choice, look for a purifier that does not use electricity.

A pure water distiller is difficult to maintain because of the cleaning involved.  The residues left in the original cooking pot must be cleaned out after each use.  The transport tubes are very hard to keep clean.  As a result, deposits build up and the tubes must be replaced on a frequent basis.

The more modern purifiers require little maintenance.  Changing the replacement filters twice a month is all that is needed.  Beware though.  Those inexpensive faucet-mount types sold in discount department stores have very small ineffective filters that last only about six weeks.  As a result, they cost hundreds of dollars more to use.

No matter your needs for purity, there are better solutions than pure water distillers.  Technology has advanced greatly in the last 2000 years.

Why settle for something out-dated when so much more is available?

default Do You Really Need Pure Water Distillers?

I designed and manufactured this water distallation system using a bit of ingenuity and some pots and cake pans I had in my house.

Are Pure Water Distillers Really Effective?

Are you consuming the water coming out from a pure water distiller? Be careful because this way you are not doing any good to your body. Gone are the days when pure water distillers were a fad. Times have changed. People are much aware now. If you have missed the real scoop about these distillers, read on.

There was a time when everyone was rushing after pure water distillers. They were considered as the only way to ensure clean drinking water. Agreed, they are efficient in removing lot many contaminants from the water. But what about the healthy natural minerals present in the water? I bet no pure water distiller company ever mentioned about these essential minerals.

Deep inside the earth, the rocks which are rich in natural minerals like calcium, magnesium, iodine etc gradually get dissolved in water, thus enriching it with these minerals which are essential for our health.

The water distillers simply remove or distill these minerals, thus producing water which is typically de-mineralized. Consuming this water for a longer period of time leads to multiple vitamin deficiency in our body. Except, of course, if you believe in taking multi-vitamins or supplements for something which you can get from pure natural water.

Another shocking fact about these distillers lies in the way they work. They basically heat up the water so that it converts into vapors and eventually settles into another container. Thus leaving the contaminants behind.

But what about the harmful chemicals like chlorine which reacts with organic contaminants to generate vaporized by-products? Chloroform and Trihalomethanes (THMs) are examples of such vapors generated from chlorine. These harmful chemicals, being vapors, very conveniently move across to the second container where "pure" water is generated.

Can this water be considered pure?

I don't think so. There is absolutely no point wasting all that money and energy on such pure water distillers which are not capable of doing their job efficiently. Why not go for a multi-stage water purifier instead?

There are lot many of them available in the market. They have multiple filters dedicated for taking care of different kinds of contaminants. Not only are these efficient in removing all types of impurities, they are cost effective and healthy too. They do not strip away natural minerals from the water.

There are no two ways about it. Drinking clean and pure water is the most vital need of our body. Do some research and find out a good and efficient water purifier which can ensure regular supply of clean and pure drinking water. These purifiers are any day better than those outdated pure water distillers.

Are shower head water filters really as important as drinking water filters? Charles Strand, founder and president of Sun Water Systems says that shower head filters are more important.

In the bathroom, when the door goes shut and the tap goes on, chemicals in the water are vaporized. They build up in the air more quickly than the steam. Water filters for shower heads trap the chemicals before they can enter the air.

For people with asthma or other respiratory problems, shower head water filters are practically a necessity. Chlorine vapor is an irritant that triggers attacks and can lead to inflammation of the respiratory tract. Just think about people who work with the chemicals. They wear masks to protect themselves from the fumes.

You can't logically wear a mask in the bathroom, but shower head filters can protect you. Inhaled chemicals are not the only problem with showering in unfiltered water.

You may know that the pores of your skin dilate in warm water. They open up. Chemicals can pass through your skin and enter the blood stream in that way. Think about the patches that people wear on their skin to provide consistent medication through out the day, the nicotine patch for example.

Without water filters for shower heads, more chemicals enter your body through your open pores than you would get form drinking a gallon of unfiltered water. Filtered drinking water protects you from consuming chemicals and other contaminants. Effective shower head water filters protect you from inhaling or absorbing those contaminants through your skin.

That's why the water experts say that shower head filters are more important than drinking water filters, but the reason they initially became popular is because of the cosmetic benefits. Hairstylists have been suggesting them for about the last ten years.

Chlorine dries out the hair and the scalp. It bleaches out the color and can interact with hair dyes causing your hair to have a greenish or orange tint. Water filters for shower heads containing carbon and other natural filters block the chlorine. Your hair feels softer and looks healthier. Your color will remain true for longer periods of time.

The nicer salons use shower head water filters in their wash areas. It just makes sense. At one time, chlorine (basically bleach) was a common ingredient in hair dye. The experts learned that chlorine is harsh. It damages the hair and irritates the scalp.

The newest hair dyes contain less irritating ingredients, but top hair designers realized that chlorine in the water could also be a problem. The chlorine content in tap water is sometimes higher than what you would find in a swimming pool. As the news spread, shower head filters became the rage.

You may be surprised to learn that water filters for shower heads are not that expensive and they are well worth the investment. The dual or multi-stage units block more chemicals than the single stage. They may be a little more difficult to find, but they are worth it.

Just remember that once you start using shower head water filters, you will never want to bathe in unfiltered water again. The water just feels better.

A very good question, "are water filters important?" In today's society, life is very fast passed, so much to do and so little time to do it. Between work, family and all the things in between, we sometimes overlook the simple things that can make a big difference in our lives. Most people are health conscious these days, we try to eat right and exercise and drink a lot of water, which is good. But most of the time, people end up buying very expensive bottled water and don't realize how much they are really spending, a bottle here, a bottle there, it adds up quick! There have been reports that bottled water isn't even all that good for you, having impurities and even toxins from being stored in plastic. There is an alternative to this highly expensive way of getting our drinking water and that is finding a good water filtering system.

When you take the time to look at what options exist for filtered water, you will see that it isn't all that complicated to figure out and you will save a lot of money compared to what you spend on bottled water. Some people get scared when thinking of purchasing a water filter system. Maybe the price of the unit seems too high or the thought of having to install the unit and then do the maintenance turns people back to the easy way of just throwing their money away on bottled water. Let us examine this further and see if that way of thinking really makes sense or if purchasing a good water filter system is the way to go. We will ask the questions: How do know what unit is the best for my situation? What are the costs of owning a filtration unit and how will it save me money? What are the benefits I will receive from using water filtration over tap or bottled water? Are there different types of water filtration? We will look at these questions and see that the difference is great and filtering your water is the way to go.

First, there are many different water filter manufacturers out there and it is important to find an established company that has a good reputation. Since there is such a great push to being healthy and drinking plenty of water, there are many companies getting into the market and copying what good manufacturers have already put out there. A little research will help you to know the difference. Once you have found a good water filter company, it's just a matter of deciding what you want out of your filtering system. Do you want to filter all the water coming into your house with a whole house unit, or just filter at point of use, such as the kitchen sink using a counter top water filter unit or faucet filter, maybe a shower filter or a combination of filters. Regardless of what you want to filter, a good water filter manufacturer will have what you need and be able to walk you through the process.

The cost of owning a water filter system can vary quiet a bit depending on the type of set up you want. Some people just want filtered water for drinking and cooking, in that case going with a counter top or under sink water filter unit is a good way to go and there are many variations to choose from ranging from around fifty to a couple of hundred dollars. If you are just looking to filter your shower water, there are very good shower filters at very reasonable prices, most around thirty to fifty dollars. A lot of people are looking to filter all the water coming into their house; this is called point of entry. There are many types of units for this purpose and a lot depends on the home you are putting the unit in, such as what type of water comes into the house, well or city water. Also, how big the house is, number of bathrooms and so on. These units can range from as little as a couple of hundred dollars to a few thousand. The money you will save by purchasing a water filter system is great! You will have an endless supply of clean filtered water for only pennies a gallon, the water filter will pay for itself in no time when you add up all the wasted money on bottled water. A whole house water filter unit can save you an untold amount of money by protecting your water pipes and all the appliances that use water by keeping sediment, lime and calcium build up and rust out of the system.

Other benefits of filtered water over tap are many. Of course your water will taste better and be healthier for you by taking out the chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals that are added to city water, but there are even more benefits to talk of. A good shower filter will make your skin and hair softer and smoother, good for people with sensitive skin or allergies. The human body is made up of over 70 percent water and showering in unfiltered water allows the body to absorb harsh chemicals like chlorine and THMs that are harmful and the steam from using hot water causes chlorine to be inhaled if no filter is used. Also, your clothes will be brighter and softer especially if used with a water softener.

There are different kinds of water filtration, the most popular are a system that uses filters or a reverse osmosis unit. A traditional water filter system has the most options of filtration as there are sediment, carbon, fluoride and media packed cartridges. It is important to use a filter that has GAC (Granulated Activated Carbon), KDF-85 and KDF-55. It is easier to develop a system that will best suit your needs. Reverse Osmosis water filter system usually will cost more and does have some limitations. It requires more maintenance and is limited to a certain amount of water it can produce per day and may end up wasting more water than it produces. Although, many people say that the water has a better taste and this is because reverse osmosis water filter system also removes dissolved mineral contents which can cause a bitter taste in some water.

A water filter system can greatly affect your life in many positive ways, most importantly by giving you better health, it will also save you lots of money from purchasing bottled water and keeping your pipes and appliances in good working order.

We did some research on the prices of drinking water filters for you.  At first glance, you might think that the really high priced units are the best quality or that a really low priced drinking water filter is the best value.  We thought that too, until we got a little education.

Reverse osmosis is the most expensive choice in drinking water filters    for home use.  They use them in large industries and public treatment facilities.  In certain situations, they are the right choice for the home, but most of us can do without them.

There best application is desalination, but without additional steps, the water is still not safe to drink.

The more reasonably priced drinking water filter    systems reach a top price of around $420.00.  They are typically some form of carbon filtration, combined with a micron filter and some sort of stage to balance mineral content and pH levels.

Practically the same drinking water filters can be purchased for less than $150.  The difference is mark-up.  Buying directly from the factory that manufactures the drinking water filter will save you hundreds of dollars.

For less than $150 and a dime a day, you can get one of the top ten rated drinking water filters, in the world.  These units are designed to sit on your counter, next to your sink.  They are more effective and less likely to leak than the units that screw directly onto the faucet.

There is typically an option to switch from filtered to unfiltered, in case you want to extend the filter life by doing dishes or washing vegetables in unfiltered water.  For cooking though, you will enjoy better tasting healthier foods, if you turn the drinking water filter to the "on" position.

You may be tempted by the really low priced drinking water filters that retail around $40.  We thought they might be a good reasonably priced alternative for a family on a budget.  We found that there were several problems.

Most are really chlorine filters, not purifiers.  Many harmful contaminants, such as THMs and VOCs, which have been linked to cancer, will not be blocked by the cheap models.  In some, the toxic metal lead is not removed.  Lead contamination is a big problem in many cities.  Not because the treatment facility isn't doing their job, but because the pipes that run into the house are old.

Bacterial cysts are another type of contaminant that a cheaper drinking water filter cannot remove.  They can cause parasitic infections in the gastrointestinal tract and have been know to cause death in children, the elderly and people with a compromised immune system.

If that's not enough, cheap drinking water filters cost more to use.  On average more than 20 cents per day, as opposed to the 10 cents per day that is available.  You see, they get you by charging a lower price initially, but then charging more for replacement filtration cartridges.  Or, the cartridge has a very short lifespan.  Either way, you end up spending more in the long run.
