Which water purifier system works best? Let's look at what water quality should be and what type of water purification system is best for the home. And importantly what is best for your health.

Water Quality Standards

Standards for public water purification are lacking. Bottled water is simply tap water that has been run through some sort of water purifier. The need for in-home water purifiers is real, but not all products really provide pure water.

What Water Should Be

Pure water should be chemical free. It should be free of illness causing bacteria. The mineral content and pH level should be well balanced. It should taste and smell good. The more you learn about public water treatment facilities, the more you realize that what they do can not be called water purification.

Be Careful!

So, the in-home water purifier has become popular and you find them attached to kitchen faucets and sitting on kitchen counters in homes around the country. Every company claims that their products are the best water purifiers in the world. The truth is that some of them are not actually water purifiers at all.

A very popular product sold on the home shopping network for around $40. Since, pure is a part of the companies brand name, people bought the units for in home water purification. It just seemed logical.

What a number of dissatisfied customers learned was that the so-called water purifier did nothing but remove some of the chlorine and odor. That’s not what water purification is. Good water purifiers can do so much more.

Chlorine and other Contaminants

Chlorine in the drinking water is a problem that most American’s face, but it is not the only contaminant found in tap water. Consumer protection agencies estimate that there are some 2400 cancer causing chemicals in tap water. The best water purifiers can remove them all.

Lead Found in Water Supplies

In some areas, lead has been found in the drinking water. Lead is a toxic metal that builds up in our bodies over time. By the time you have symptoms of lead poisoning; the damage has already been done. How could a product that does not block lead honestly be called a water purifier?

The company mentioned above says that it does not claim to sell water purifiers. So, if a customer misunderstands, it’s their own fault. But, in the TV ads, people would drink the water and say things like, “Wow! That tastes pure.” Really?

Eventually, the Federal Trade Commission might bring charges against them for false advertising or misleading statements. Over the years, a number of “water purification” systems have been brought up on charges. One, a product made by Company N, actually added a toxic chemical to tap water. Water purifiers should not add. They should take out the bad and leave the good.

Reverse Osmosis? – The Truth

Another system that is considered an effective water purifier is reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis systems for home use cost around $10,000. They are the most expensive products on the market. The problem is that they take out the good and leave some of the bad. They reduce particles, like mud. They de-mineralize water. But, they cannot block chemicals like pesticides. So, even if you buy a reverse osmosis water purifier, you would also have to install carbon activated filters to block chemicals, and you would still be drinking de-mineralized water, which is bad for your health.

There are a number of technologically advanced water purifier systems on the market and they are affordable. You just have to do a little research, so that you don’t buy an ineffective product. For more information see my website for the water purifier system that works best. -Larry L. Taylor

Looking out for buying a water purifier? I am sure you must have heard about reverse osmosis water units. Read on to find out about the most basic component of these RO systems - the reverse osmosis membrane.

A reverse osmosis system is essentially made up of a thin, semi permeable, porous membrane. This reverse osmosis membrane has ultra-fine pores on its surface, the size of which basically determines what all things are going to be filtered.

When water is forced to pass through this membrane, it being smaller in molecular size, passes through the membrane and other contaminants being larger in size are blocked and hence separated out from the water.

This basically makes this membrane the most important part of a RO based unit. Broadly speaking, the reverse osmosis membrane is available in two flavors.

- Cellulose Triacetate Membrane (CTA): These membranes are extremely hydrophilic and are ideal for removing antibodies from the water. The problem with these membranes is that they are totally non-protein binding, so they remove proteins also from the water. Moreover, this membrane needs to be disinfected regularly so as to keep bacterial growth in control.

- FTC membranes: These membranes being inorganic in nature are not susceptible to bacterial growth. So they do not need disinfection. But they are more expensive as compared to the CTA ones. The problem with these membranes is that they are prone to be easily damaged by chlorine- a common contaminant in water.

These RO membranes are ultra thin and very sensitive. Thus are vulnerable to damage. But detecting the damaged membrane is a difficult task. If this goes undetected, the microscopic wastes will easily pass through the membrane and hence will not be separated out from the water.

One critical problem with this membrane is that the size of its pore is smaller than that of various naturally occurring minerals. This results into blocking of these minerals and so they are removed from the filtered water. This is known as de-mineralization.

Consuming such de-mineralized water is not recommended. The minerals which are removed by a reverse osmosis membrane are required for the basic functioning of the body. These minerals are calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron etc.

Drinking water is the best source to ensure daily intake of these minerals. Water lacking in these minerals can lead to deficiencies and other health problems.

Multi-stage water purifiers are superior to RO bases units. They are capable of removing all contaminants while retaining the essential minerals at the same time. They are easy to maintain and come in large variety of sizes and colors.

Now that you know about reverse osmosis membrane and how reverse osmosis work, I hope this information will help you in deciding a home water purifier for you. Whatever you select, make a choice soon. Drinking clean water is our body's most basic and important requirement.

anyone tried rear sea monkeys without using the water purifier #1?

i found some information in www.sea-monkeys.com bout the water purifier. it actually helps the sea monkeys to hatch. but, after i poured the water purifier #1 into the tank, i accidentally contaminate the tank with oil so i disposed the water n refill it with RO (reverse osmosis) water. if i go ahead to add in the instant eggs #2, i wonder will they hatch? anyone ever tried it? i hope someone tried it n is successful. i really hope my sea monkeys won't die. thx for yr help

no it wont work. the "purifier" actually contains salt and a few eggs. remember, seamonkeys are actually brine shrimp, as such, they need salt water to hatch and survive.
about the bleach thing, the bleach solution is for dissolving the egg casing. this is used by people who use seamonkeys(brineshrimp) to feed their fishes. this eliminates the need to separate the eggcasings from the brineshrimp.
getting back to your sea monkeys, to hatch them you'll have to make your own brine solution since you disposed of the "purifier" try 3 tbsp of salt per liter of water. the second package, the egg package, contains some eggs too but you'll have to wait another 24 hours for those to hatch. also, i dont think you need to use RO water

Osmosis Water Purifier

Recently I moved to Atlanta in Georgia. We used to get drinking water from a nearby well. But the taste was bad and we started purchasing bottled water. But soon we were compelled to search for an affordable alternative as it was quite expensive. One of my colleague suggested me to install reverse osmosis water filtration system in the home. After performing some research online I decided to try it. And I am glad that I did!

I couldn't be more pleased with the results. After the installation of reverse osmosis water filter system my wife wasn't able to notice that it was ever well water. And there are reasons for such an observation... No odor, no smell and great taste. The water purification system worked absolutely amazingly... Filtering out contaminants that can harm our small kids.

People often think water purifier as a luxury instead of a necessity. You can live without food for several days but not water. Contaminated water is the major source of all the health related disease in the world. Being a caring husband and father of two kids I well understand the dangers of contaminated water - and wants my family to lead a healthy lifestyle. For safe drinking water I believe in reverse osmosis water purifier. And I believe that after reading this article you will too consider about it. So please read on...

Reverse osmosis commonly refers to the water purification technology that is used in households and industrial establishments to produce pure, healthy, great tasting water.

You just need to replace the filter after certain period of time. The time period depends upon the amount of use and how much your unit is building contaminants.

Reverse osmosis unit has two different filters: pre-filter and semi-permeable osmosis membrane. The pre-filtration process is used to remove the larger elements and sediments from the fluid and is often used with a carbon-based filter. After the pre-filtration stage the liquid is then prepared to be moved on to semi-permeable osmosis membrane. At this stage the liquid is permitted to pass through it under pressure while the membrane traps the pollutants and bacteria.

With several options on how to filter and purify both at home and offices there is no question reverse osmosis water filtration system is a highly effective method. Explore your options and ascertain whether reverse osmosis water filtration will satisfy your needs.

Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier

Are you looking to buy a reverse osmosis water purifier to be a second layer of protection from bad water? Well maybe you should think twice.

Let's face it water is our life blood, we can't survive without it for more than a few days at best. Combine that with the levels of pollution and harmful chemicals in our water supply and it's not surprising more and more people are looking for additional water filtering devices.

The fact of the matter is a reverse osmosis water purifier does clean your drinking supply extremely well. That is if your looking to filter out all the good stuff in your water and leave all the bad chemicals.

You see water in its natural form has important minerals in it that our body needs, such as calcium and magnesium. These reverse osmosis filters eliminate these trace minerals but don't touch the chemicals and other bad things that are in our tap water.

You see a reverse osmosis filter works off a 3 stage membrane system that only filters out things down to 1 micron in size. While that seems pretty small, many chemicals are much small then that and can breeze right by the filter.

The bottom line is I'd suggest you look for a system that filters with a different process than what a reverse osmosis water purifier uses. Systems are available that will eliminate the harmful chemicals but leaves the good minerals alone. I've done my homework on this and have put up a website to share what I've found with others.

I built my site because these filter systems are expensive and when I was looking for one I thought I'd share what I learned researching these products.

So visit my site right now and learn all about the differences between many styles of water filtration systems, including a reverse osmosis water purifier.

-Larry L.
Do air purifying units that use water filtration systems work well?

I'm looking into maybe buying a small air purifier from say Thermax, and am seeing negative reviews. Are there any solid benefits to water filtration? I'd like to get as much information as I can, as I can't seem to find an actual air quality specialist with no biases to contact.

I am an air quality specialist with bias...toward what our customers say works for them. If there is one thing about the air purifier market, it is that there is always a new gimmick for cleaning the air. Be careful that whatever you end up with will have independent third party testing to show how well it does what it claims to do.

We offer high quality air cleaning products at http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.com/ at affordable prices and have the testing and experience to back up our products. I will not try to convince you by a sales pitch. I would just like to offer you a place to go for information about air purifier basics, how to shop for air purifiers and general information about indoor air quality. I hope this helps.
