For most people, getting a drink of water is just a matter of walking a few feet, turning on the faucet and drinking up. However in the camping or hiking scenario the normally simple task becomes a bit more laborious. Ozonation produces no taste or odor in the water. These type of filters are normally used in conjunction with ceramic or glass fiber filters when a much broader spectrum of contaminants is present in the water. How do you make ice cubes that are totally clear?

I am 39 years old and this has stumped me for years. We've all seen ice cubes that are cloudy and we've seen ones that are clear. I want to serve my beverages with crystal clear ice cubes. I've searched on this sites for answers, and some say use bottled or distilled water. However, I ONLY use filtered and bottled water (I live in NJ and most don't drink the tap water here) and I have a thermometer in my freezer and the temp is juuuust below zero. Use bottled spring water only. Aluminum or stainless steel ice cube trays. NO plastic trays. Set freezer to read 10 degrees below zero F. Fill trays to 2/3 full to allow for water to expand properly. Also cover trays with plastic freezer wrap. Do not allow
wrap to touch water in trays.
Also keep an open box of baking soda in your freezer and change it once a month. This way your ice won't taste like other stuff in your freezer.

why wont water come out of my water filter system?

well you know that drinking water filter in the kitchen sink next to the standard faucet? i dont know why, but water wont come out. it worked in the morning but when i came home in the evening and tried to get a drink of water, nothing came out. the regular faucet next to it still works fine. i checked under the sink but no pipe/tube seems to be out of place. what could be wrong? i dont want to hire an expensive profesional....

Sounds like a clogged filter. Take the filter out and put a new one in...or at least take the old one out and check to see if something might have plugged the inlet hole. If it fairly new...try shaking it out the inlet hole and putting the filter back in.

Filtered water has higher TDS than tap water?

My water comes from a well in my yard and has a typical TDS value of 100-140 range.
I have installed a 2 stage micro biological filter that has a 5 micron particle and carbon filters.
After the installation I am getting a higher TDS reading from my filtered water (180-190) which is appox. 40 points higher than the untreated well water from tap.
There is no measuring error since I use the same TDS meter for measuring both sources.
Filter instructions states that I should run 7 gallons of water through the filter before it performs proper filtration.
While the initial numbers I read of 600-500 came down to 180-190 it is still higher than unfiltered water.
Does this make sense? How long does a basic water filter takes before it reaches to full performance?

I think your meter must be bad. My well reads the same before and after my filter, but my filter is just for filtering out the sand.

You can find them for as low as $100 for a counter top model, that is easy to install, or you can invest in a whole house filter. Whole house filters vary in price; the one my son bought recently was only $800. I’ve had one from the same company for years and it still works perfectly.

Now that you know some facts about owning a well, check your well system to see how efficient your well water filter is at removing the particles that could damage to your pump. And check your water to be sure it is safe and pure to drink after going through the first series of well water filters. Reverse Osmosis Water Filters

It's unbelievable that there are so many water filter systems available on the market today. Their basic function is to clean tap water and provide contaminant free, purity. As I began investigating, I started with a reverse osmosis water filter and was looking to see how it worked and if there were any positives/negatives before deciding how I felt about purchasing one.

Reverse Osmosis works by reversing water through a filter system that eliminates sediment and then uses a membrane that is semi-permeable to complete the filtering process. After that, a carbon filter is utilized and then distributed through a faucet as "purified tap". This unit can typically be installed by a reputable plumber and be used to purify water anywhere in the home. However, after looking into some of the negatives of a reverse osmosis filter, I wasn't too impressed with the results.

This type of system is very efficient at eliminating toxic materials such as rust, lead, parasites, salt, sediments and sulfates. Unfortunately, some of the negatives I discovered were:

• Only partial removal of viruses and bacteria that would require another type of water purification system to back it up. This doesn't seem to be a high priority for this type of filter process.

• It removes too many minerals that the body desires for good functioning, health and longevity. Minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium if eliminated force the body to draw from that which is stored in teeth and bones. Normally, this is caused by the high acid, low pH level of the water.
• It takes away water's good taste.
• It wastes three to four gallons of water for each one gallon it attempts to purify.
• As alkaline turns to highly acid water, it not only causes minerals to again be pulled from teeth and bones, but has also been known in some cases to increase the possibility of developing cancer since more free radicals are produced from this occurrence.
• It takes a few hours to install and may require a professional plumber.

So after considering all the negatives about reverse osmosis water filters, I found after extensive research that a multi-stage filter which employs essential and vital purification processes such as ion exchange, sub-micron and carbon filtration would be more beneficial in removing all traces of contaminants. These included eliminating toxins such as VOCs (volatile organic chemicals) like pesticides and herbicides, chlorine, lead and other harmful materials, while it ensured securing the valuable minerals that were critical to the body and contributed to better health.

Now that you are armed with this information, instead of spending valuable time and money on a filtration system that will not do everything you need it to plus bring negative effects to your life, it would be wise to consider one that does, but also adds to your longevity.
