Water Filters

If you’re like the many other consumers not using drinking water filters, you’re in bad company, and here’s why. Go down the isle at just about any grocery store in America that carries beverages, and the most popular item that you will find on the shelf is water. Why is that? One, it sells like crazy, and two, those who don’t use drinking water filters have lousy tasting water. However, there should be another reason to consider using a water filter, your health!

Many people do not know what is in their tap water, and there in lies the shock. A few of the ingredients in your tap water include bacteria, viruses, uranium, radium, nitrate, arsenic, chromium and fluoride. One of the most prominent ingredients in tap water is dissolved toilet tissue. Doesn’t sound very appetizing does it?

Where does this contamination come from? Some of it actually comes from natural sources such as rock formations that find their way into our water supply. Some chemicals such as chlorine are actually placed into our water supply on purpose to kill off harmful bacteria. The problem is, chlorine can be very harmful to the human body and has been linked to certain cancers. This is why many people have turned to using a drinking water filter.

Other sources of water contamination include not getting rid of everyday items in your house such as cleaning solvents, paint, and motor oil in a proper manner. Then you have problem of industrial waste. Seems like everyday you read about some kind of accidental leakage or a large company using illegal methods to get rid of its waste. Pesticides are also another item that has found its way into our water supply.

Our local water treatment plants do try to do a good job in making sure our water is safe, but it’s next to impossible to get rid of all the contaminants. We are also faced with a dwindling supply of fresh pure water, so many cities have turned to using reclaimed water. Reclaimed water includes the waste that is flushed down your toilet, and then is chemically treated and used in our drinking water supply. You should consider using a drinking water filter if you live in an area where reclaimed water is being used.

Many people would like to use a drinking water filter, but don’t know where to start. There are many types and brands available. They most expensive is not always best. Same goes for the cheapest. Some drinking water filters are cheap and do a fair job, but they need replacement cartridges often, which can end up being more expensive in the long run than higher priced drinking water filters.

Some higher priced filters do a poor job but carry a high price tag just to make a profit for the promoter. Doing a little research when choosing a drinking water filter will not only improve your health, but will save you money in the longer term.

Water Well Filters

Let’s face it. The quality of water being supplied to our homes is deteriorating day by day. With all kinds of new chemicals being produced in the industries, sooner or later they make their way into the water supply and pose a risk to our health. You need to ask yourself then – can your water purifier filter handle all these chemicals and other contaminants present in the water?

The three main categories of contaminants a good water purifier filter should be able to filter out are:

1) Dust and Organic matter

Dust particles, bacteria, leaves, decayed organic matter – these all fall into this category. They are also the simplest of all to filter out from the water due to their large size, and almost any purifier is capable of handling them. So be it a Distiller, a simple Carbon filter or even a Reverse Osmosis filter, all of them can remove these impurities from the water.

2) Heavy Metals

Traces of heavy metals like Lead and Asbestos can frequently be found in our water. These metals are mostly added into the water due to the industrial wastes being dumped into our water sources like rivers and lakes. The metals from pipes in the water distribution network also add to it. These metals are especially harmful for children and can hamper their physical and mental growth. The good news is – most purifiers can handle these dangerous contaminants too without any problem.

3) Dangerous Chemicals

This is the category of contaminants that separates the boys from the men – so to speak. With the number of chemicals in our water increasing at a rapid rate – the old technologies have not been able to keep pace with them. So the pesticides and fertilizer traces, pharmaceutical drugs, hormones, soaps and shampoos – they all pose a serious health risk that the older Distillers and Reverse Osmosis filters cannot handle. Only a good multi stage water purifier filter can handle these chemicals and produce 99% pure water.

Apart from the purification, another factor to be considered is the mineral content of the water. Water in nature contains many minerals inside like Calcium, Sodium and Magnesium – which are needed by our body to keep running smoothly. Purifiers like Distillers and RO filters remove these minerals from the water. Drinking the resultant de-mineralized water can cause mineral deficiencies in the body and lead to health problems down the line.

Multi stage purifiers score over the other purifiers here also as they do not remove the essential minerals from the water.

Now that you have this information, you can make an intelligent choice as to the right water purifier filter for your home. To know about a high quality line of filters that can do all this and more – visit my website now.

Does a wide range of water filters available in the market add to your confusion of which one to buy? Worry not – taking this decision is easy provided you do a little research in this area.

This article intends to provide you with a fair idea of the most talked about water filters. This will not only help you make the decision but also ensure that you select nothing but the best.

There are 3 major categories of water filters:

1. Iron/ Carbon filters – these purifiers are too contaminant specific. For example – iron filter is fairly effective in getting rid of sediments, iron and clay particles from water but when it comes to other contaminants like chlorine, lead, pesticides etc, these filters fail to do justice to it.

This category of filters is more or less obsolete and is gradually getting replaced with the ones based on advanced technologies. You can safely choose to ignore these.

2. Reverse Osmosis filters/distillers – this category of purifiers is the one which is fairly effective for various contaminants including virus, cysts, parasites, pesticides etc. But there are two major challenges which these filters fail to over come.

(i) They perform poorly for contaminants like chlorine and its toxic by-products. Though chlorine is the most common contaminant found in drinking water, the irony with these filters is that they are not able to remove it completely from water. This is a direct threat to our health and can lead to rectal and breast cancer!

(ii) They remove mineral traces found in natural water. Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Zinc etc – all these minerals present in natural water are required for the daily functioning of our body and this category of purifiers is not able to retain them in purified water.

The water produced by them is also known as distilled or de-mineralized and is not recommended for regular consumption.

Due to these two drawbacks, these purifiers are slowly losing out to the latest filters which have been designed specifically to take care of these flaws.

3. Multi Stage purifiers – these are the latest and advanced purifiers which are smart enough to employ a combination of filtration techniques. They provide the best of all worlds – have multiple processing units – for carbon filtration, sub micron filtration and ion exchange.

All these techniques are effective for certain types of contaminants. And when they are used in conjunction, they successfully ensure that practically each and every impurity has been removed with an efficiency of 99+%.

These water filters also retain the mineral content of water. Hence, the water produced is absolutely clean, pure, mineral rich and ideal for consumption.

You can research more on these advanced yet economically priced water filters by visiting my website listed below. After all clean and pure water is something that all of us deserve.

How do you make ice cubes that are totally clear?

I am 39 years old and this has stumped me for years. We’ve all seen ice cubes that are cloudy and we’ve seen ones that are clear. I want to serve my beverages with crystal clear ice cubes. I’ve searched on this sites for answers, and some say use bottled or distilled water. However, I ONLY use filtered and bottled water (I live in NJ and most don’t drink the tap water here) and I have a thermometer in my freezer and the temp is juuuust below zero. Does anyone know the answer to this? A real answer and not just something smart to say? Thanks for your help.

Use bottled spring water only. Aluminum or stainless steel ice cube trays. NO plastic trays. Set freezer to read 10 degrees below zero F. Fill trays to 2/3 full to allow for water to expand properly. Also cover trays with plastic freezer wrap. Do not allow
wrap to touch water in trays.
Also keep an open box of baking soda in your freezer and change it once a month. This way your ice won’t taste like other stuff in your freezer.

Drinking Water Filter Systems

Why do you need a drinking water filter system in your home? The main reason is your health may be at risk. The right water filter system can protect your home drinking water from contaminants such as bacteria, chemicals, chlorine and other potentially dangerous things.

Water is Vital to Life and Good Health

Your body is 70% fluid and you lose bodily fluids daily. The best way to replace them is by drinking water. But the water must be safe, clean and pure. Tap water is potentially harmful. An in-home drinking water filter system can turn your tap water back into something that you enjoy drinking.

Is Your Water Safe or Contaminated?

When you find out what is lurking in your water, you may not want to drink it. A lot of people do not realize what they are drinking, and thus continue to use tap water. Many of the most harmful contaminants are hard to detect because they are without odor or color. We want you to know why a water filter system for your home is so important.

Chlorine – The Good and The Bad

Tap water that comes into your home has chlorine in it put there by the public water system. It is good that they put it there. It kills bacteria that cause cholera.

However, chlorine is not good for your body. It should be removed before you drink. You should look for a drinking water filter system that is certified to remove at least 99% of the chlorine. There are several on the market. I found that a website that has an excellent water filter. I will talk more about it in a moment.

So why is chlorine not good at all times? In the shower it causes dry skin. Some people are allergic to it. But the worst thing is that there is a relationship between chlorine in our water supply and cancer. Several scientific studies have revealed the connection. People with chlorinated water have an increased risk of cancer. A chemical and chlorine blocking water filter can reduce your risks.

Other Water Contaminants

Being a country of consumers, all that we use on the land will sooner or later end up in the water supply. Pesticides, herbicides, gasoline additives and a thousand other chemicals have been found in drinking water and all of them can cause cancer. You may think that the public drinking water filter system takes care of these things, but the facilities were not designed to handle these issues.

The public drinking water system in many areas is outdated. It uses old technology that does nothing to filter out chemicals. The latest technology has gone into the best home water filter system, so that it can remove chemical contaminants. If you look for product performance data that certifies removal of VOCs, THMs, benzene, alachlor, atrazine, lindane, TCE and MTBE, you’ll be safe.

The right drinking water filter is one that balances mineral content and pH level. Distillers and reverse osmosis are old technologies that block minerals, leaving the water with an acidic pH.

Most reverse osmosis will not remove chemicals, like chlorine unless it has a carbon filter. Distillers will leave you with a dry powder that is chemical in nature. With the latest technology, you are left with nothing but pure healthy water.

Best Choice for the Home

No home water filter system will not protect you from all of the diseases that are out there. But, it can protect you from all water borne diseases. Some bacterial contaminants are resistant to chlorine disinfection.

Those who specialize in water filters call those bacteria, cysts. This is in reference to the oocyst or spore stage. If they get inside the human body, they can grow, causing illness and even death. In order to protect your family from them, you need a drinking water filter system that removes cysts. It should be listed on the performance data sheets. Look for it. For more information please see my website. – Larry L. Taylor

why wont water come out of my water filter system?

well you know that drinking water filter in the kitchen sink next to the standard faucet? i dont know why, but water wont come out. it worked in the morning but when i came home in the evening and tried to get a drink of water, nothing came out. the regular faucet next to it still works fine. i checked under the sink but no pipe/tube seems to be out of place. what could be wrong? i dont want to hire an expensive profesional….

Sounds like a clogged filter. Take the filter out and put a new one in…or at least take the old one out and check to see if something might have plugged the inlet hole. If it fairly new…try shaking it out the inlet hole and putting the filter back in.

First off, before you buy any water filtration system, you need to know what drinking water contaminants you want to remove and find a suitable water filtration technology to remove it.

For example, if you are particular concerned about the aesthetic appearance of your tap water, then a whole house carbon water filter certified to NSF 42 will do great. NSF 42 certified water filters remove virtually 100% of chlorine and sediment from your water supply. Your tap water will look cleaner, smell and taste great.

Why remove chlorine? Well apart from the horrible taste it gives water, chlorine is a cancer causing agent and has asthma inducing properties. Additionally, chlorine dries out your skin and hair after a shower.

If on the other hand, you are primarily concerned with bacteria in your drinking water, then a whole house carbon water filter certified to NSF 42 standard won’t help you. What you need is a water distiller or ultraviolet water filter that removes the microbes out of water.

What many households do is to combine a whole house water filtration system with another system, like a distiller. The wholehouse system will provide chlorine and sediment-free water to the house for showering and cooking, whilst the distiller could be used for drinking.

Convenience

For many people, improving the look and taste of tap water is most important. What makes a whole house carbon filter so convenient for this purpose is that it supplies chlorine-free and sediment-free water to every faucet in the house. There is no need to buy a water filter for every tap. Some people express how hard it is to remember when to change the filter of each water filter they have in their homes.

By having just one wholehouse water filter, you only need to remember to change one filter. The beauty about wholehouse systems is that their systems are designed to filter over 150,000 gallons, so you won’t be changing filters too often.

What to do now.

We live in an age where our industries and lifestyles severely impacts on our environment and hence our water supply. Our water supply systems are constantly being bombarded by chemical and microbiological contaminants that you must be protected from.

Acquire a quality, certified water filter and give you family the healthiest and most tasty drinking water possible. Getting a good whole house carbon water filter is a great start to your quest for superior tap water.

Are you a hundred percent sure that the water you drink is potable and safe and does not contain harmful substances? No one who uses water from the generally available water system can answer this question affirmatively except of course if he has devised a method to purify his water supply.

The United States Drinking Water Act provides for the issuance of reports on the quality of water in a certain area every year. The report must be provided to all consumers. These reports can be helpful in determining the current status of an area’s water system. However, most cities actually comply with the federal rules on water safety so nothing much can be gleamed form that report. While there is a low level of carcinogen in drinking water, experts believe that there may be a link to the low carcinogen level in water to the increasing number of people getting cancer.

Fear of the quality and contents of water being distributed by their own water systems has led to the growth of businesses related to water treatment. While water companies used to get their bread and butter from selling water equipment that can get rid of mineral contents, their business has grown to great proportions in the last twenty five years. Most of these companies are now selling systems specifically targeted and used for treating water and improving water taste. The demand for water treatment and improvement is expected to grow even rapidly in the next few years with water treatment facilities becoming a common household item.

Water can give life but it can also taste bad. With this realization, people are becoming more concerned about ways and means to improve their water supply to improve taste. Proof of this is the massive growth of the bottled water industry.

Most water systems rely on chlorinated water for both drinking and bathing use. However, there are sectors who believe that the use of chlorinated water can cause itching and loss of natural oils in the skin. It can also rid the body of useful bacteria that can defend the skin against skin diseases. Most drinking water shows a chlorine residue level of more than 1.5 ppm, the recommended chlorine level for swimming pools.

To make sure that their water is safe, people opt for water filter devices. Water filters can be expensive at first glance but it is really cost effective in the long term depending on the kind of water filter that you purchase. There are water filters that can be used without using electricity and without much need for parts replacement. There are portable water filter systems that can be easily attached to your home faucets.

If you have a budget, then opt for a centralized water filter system for the entire home. This type of water filter system filters all water that is being used in your home, whether for drinking or bathing.

Price can be an issue when choosing the best water filter device for your home use. However, when you think of the possible benefits your family can get from filtered water, it makes the cost of installing one the best option.

Everpure Water Filters

When it comes to buying a water purifier for your home, there is a whole range of them available in the market today. Starting from those which are available at a low price of $30-$40 to those for which the price goes up to $800. Everpure water filters are one such $300-$800 ranged filters. Let’s take these filters as an example to discuss if they are really worth it or are they simply burning a hole in your pocket?

The water supplied in our homes is full of contaminants and impurities like bacteria, viruses, cysts, lead, copper, arsenic, chlorine, pesticides, drugs etc. This water if consumed directly can lead to various health ailments. It is due to this fact that we need to depend on home water purification devices. Everpure water filters are one expensive brand in the market which are effective in removing most of the above mentioned contaminants.

But what these Everpure water filters fail to remove are the dangerous chlorine by-products. Chlorine has a property of reacting with organic pollutants in water and generating various toxic derivatives like chloroform and TTHMs (Total Trihalomethanes). Tell me, if you know that a water purifier is not able to remove such carcinogens, would you still like taking the risk of consuming such “filtered” water?

The basic model of Everpure water filters which lacks this capability of handling TTHMs is ranged anywhere in between $300 and $400. Do you really think it is worth a buy; when there are multi stage water purifiers already available at a much reasonable price. Not to forget that these multi stage filters are 99% effective for all types of contaminants including TTHMs and VOCs.

The advanced model of Everpure water filters is claimed (is still debatable) to have the ability to filter out all these tough contaminants as well. The reason why I took the liberty of calling it debatable is the fact that they are basically a combination of the basic filter and a reverse osmosis based filter. A reverse osmosis water filter is something which makes their advanced filter even worse than the basic ones. And to top this it is priced at a high $800.

The truth about what reverse osmosis can do to your drinking water is no more a secret. They actually strip off all essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, zinc etc from the water thereby making it de-mineralized. Consuming such water not only gives a flat taste but is very unhealthy too. It can also lead to multiple mineral deficiencies!

In brief, the market is flooded with many purifiers like Everpure water filters- they may be good but not the best value for your money. Why not do some research about multi stage water purifiers? They are effective, efficient and evenly priced. The decision is in your hands. Think twice and do not get carried away by any brand name.

Micron Water Filters

The Maytag water filter is ideal for removing unpleasant tastes as well as helps to reduce odors. It is also useful for reducing chlorine, lead as well as cysts from the water, and is able to filter as many as 416 gallons of water. Its major strengths include being simple to replace as well as excellent filtration capabilities. However, users that have used the Maytag water filter have found that it does not last very long, and is also quite costly.

Useful, But Expensive

The general opinion regarding the Maytag water filter is that it is a useful device that cleans the water as well as improves the taste considerably. The advantage of using the Maytag water filter is that it uses thousands of ultrfiltration hollow fibre membrane strands to accomplish its goals, and each membrane strand will be having billions of microscopic pores to get best results.

The pressure of household water pushes the water molecules through the pores into the hollow center of the membrane, and thus helps to block out the larger contaminants like parasites, bacteria as well as viruses. Also, the filtered water flows through every fibre so that it is distributed to each separate household fixture.

And, the unwanted particles as well as micro-organisms get flushed out of the system when the Maytag water filter performs is automatic self-cleaning cycle every day. However, dissolved salts as well as essential minerals are not kept out and they pass through freely. It is only particles that are larger than 0.04 microns that are kept out, and such a system is ideal for use on municipal water sources if you wish for unwanted odors and tastes to be eliminated.

There are various Maytag water filters available, and costs range from between just fewer than two thousand five hundred dollars to approximately three thousand seven hundred dollars. Paying this price is well worth it as it helps to keep foul odors and tastes out of your daily drinking water, and thus will save on expensive medical bills that would otherwise be paid in taking care of health problems that may arise if you drank unfiltered water.

Using a Maytag water filter is also advantageous as it does away with the necessity of buying exotic bottled water, water coolers as well as jug filters, and maybe even one-faucet filters. The need of the modern family is to get crystal clear as well as safe water to drink from each and every faucet in the home, and this the Maytag water filter does admirably well.

Filtered water has higher TDS than tap water?

My water comes from a well in my yard and has a typical TDS value of 100-140 range.
I have installed a 2 stage micro biological filter that has a 5 micron particle and carbon filters.
After the installation I am getting a higher TDS reading from my filtered water (180-190) which is appox. 40 points higher than the untreated well water from tap.
There is no measuring error since I use the same TDS meter for measuring both sources.
Filter instructions states that I should run 7 gallons of water through the filter before it performs proper filtration.
While the initial numbers I read of 600-500 came down to 180-190 it is still higher than unfiltered water.
Does this make sense? How long does a basic water filter takes before it reaches to full performance?

I think your meter must be bad. My well reads the same before and after my filter, but my filter is just for filtering out the sand.

An essential part of living on this earth is to have clean water. Humans and animals cannot exist without clean water to drink. However, when our world is constantly being affected by greenhouse gases on a daily basis, one may wonder how to keep our drinking water safe. One way to do that is to invest in a water purifier.

However, so many are available that one may be confused as to which is the actual best water purifier on the market. In order to find out you can use the internet to get unbiased reviews of water filters and purifiers instead of relying on a pushy sales person.

Where to Look?

One of the first avenues that you can look to find the best water purifier on the market is Consumer Reports. They have been looking into the quality of products for consumers for years, and water purifiers are no exception to this rule. They have a magazine subscription that you can invest in or they also have a great website that can help a person find the best quality product that they might be looking for no matter if it is the best water purifier or the best in digital cameras.

Another resource for a person to check out is a website that deals direct with customer reviews. This can prove invaluable in the search for the best water purifiers. Actually having someone who has used a Brita filter, PUR, or any of the other top brands is a great way to learn how well they really work. No longer do you have to go to the retailer of your choice and stare at the boxes wondering which is the best water purifier for your family and their needs.

The internet has opened many avenues up for people all over the world. Just as with shopping, one can get information that they might otherwise not be privy to if they had not looked online first. Included in this privy information is the best water purifier to keep you and your family safe and drinking the best water that they possibly can find.

Tap water is safe, but as a parent or just a human being in general, staying as healthy as possible can be critical in today’s world that is filled with more and more sicknesses. So, healthy people rejoice because now you can find out the best water purifiers that are on the market thanks to the internet.

Yes, UV degrades plastic, and PVC is one of the worst of the clear plastics in this regard. Google “UV plastic degradation” and “plastic UV resistance”for a wealth of information. You also have to consider the UV transparency of the plastic, so the UV can get into the water and do some good. Looking at your website, I’d suggest trying to interest a good plastics engineer in your cause.

Water Purifier Dispenser

Water that is considered to be drinking water is of high quality and does not pose imminent health risks to the user once they use it. It is estimated that 60 or 70 percent of the human body is water; therefore most body parts contain water. Drinking water is required by the human body for various functions such as the regulation of the body’s temperature and it is the means through which nutrients are transported to all other human organs.

There are many regions in the world that do not have access to clean water. The water is not clean because it has disease vectors. When this kind of water is consumed, it can lead to chronic illnesses. This is the reason why you should have water distribution systems that have water purification technology. Water purification simply means getting rid of the contaminants that are found in raw water.

The physical process of purifying drinking water may be used and this entails using either water filtration or water sedimentation processes. It may also be purified using biological processes like the slow sand filters or the activated sludge. Flocculation and chlorination are the chemical processes that are used to filter water. Electromagnetic radiation is filtering water through the use of ultra violet light.

The purification of drinking water reduces concentration of parasites, bacteria, viruses, algae, suspended particles and other matters that may have come into contact with the water as it falls into the rain. Basically, the quality of drinking water is usually set by the specific government of that area or by the international standards.

Water can be found from various sources including ground sources, precipitation like rain and snow and surface water.
