Where does this contamination come from? Some of it actually comes from natural sources such as rock formations that find their way into our water supply. Some chemicals such as chlorine are actually placed into our water supply on purpose to kill off harmful bacteria. There are two main benefits for using a water filter with your bidet seat:  (1) it's better to use filtered water when cleaning your sensitive parts and, (2) it keeps the internal parts of your bidet seat free of sediment and impurities found in normal tap water.

Your bidet toilet seat works with a series of hoses, water reservoirs, and other parts where water runs through.  For example, your bidet routes water from the tap and through the internal water heating system, then out the spray outlet found at the tip of the wash nozzle.  It's important to keep this system clean and free of mineral build-up, and a bidet water filter helps achieve that.  A good comparison would be to look through an old pipe when a building is re-doing their plumbing.  Mineral build-up can be seen all over the inside walls of the pipe, and you wouldn't want the insides of your toilet bidet seat looking like that!

It goes without saying that there are definitely benefits of using clean, filtered water to clean yourself, particularly your private area.  You wouldn't want to expose one of the most sensitive parts of your body to particulates or bacteria.  And when considering how easy and inexpensive these water filters are to install, there really isn't a good reason to go without them.

Two types of bidet water filters are generally available, carbon filters and iodine filters.  Carbon filters work because of a chemical process called adsorption.  This is when the atomic charge of carbon frees particles and contaminants from their bond with water.  As water passes thru the carbon filter, these particles chemically attach to the carbon, leaving clean filtered water to pass through.

Then there is the iodine filter.  This type of filter works by adding a very small amount of iodine to the water as it passes thru the filter.  This process sterilizes the water.  Iodine is a common household item which is frequently used to treat scrapes and cuts.  Iodine works for this purpose because it's actually an antiseptic which kills bacteria.  This concept is similar to how iodine water filters work for your bidet toilet seat.

Installing a bidet water filter takes just minutes.  There's a water outlet behind your toilet, which is connected to your bidet seat through a hose.  This is the hose that supplies tap water to your bidet seat.  Bidet water filters are designed to be attached to this hose, as they have one male end and one female end.  To install, close the water shut-off on your water outlet.  Then unscrew the hose which connects to the water outlet, and attach the female end of the water filter directly on to the outlet.  Re-attach the hose to the other (male) end of the filter.  Open the water-shut off valve, and then look around the area of your toilet bidet seat to ensure there are no leaks.

It's recommended that you replace your bidet water filter every four to six months

By contrast the most water-rich areas of the world, such as the Amazon and Congo River Basins, are sparsely populated. Some of the most densely populated regions of the world, such as the Mediterranean, the Middle East, India, and China will face severe water shortages in the coming decades.

Limited or non-existent water supplies will be the primary obstacle to increased food production in the next few decades. In the past, prior to the onslaught of climate change, most of the increases in agricultural productivity occurred on irrigated lands, since irrigated farmlands are five times more productive than rain-fed. Today, according to Worldwatch, "irrigation-fed agriculture supplies about 45 percent of the World's food supply".

Steadily increasing social problems, combined with current economic trends will compound the severity of the gathering water shortage. Approximately 1.5 billion people lack access to potable water, with more than half the World's population lacking adequate sanitation which jeopardises existing drinking water supplies. Facilities must be developed for the increased population as well as the existing inhabitants, unfortunately this is not currently a priority with the worldwide concerns of the financial markets. Meanwhile, as a result of industrial development and increasing living standards, water use grew at more than twice the rate of population increase during the 20th century and is currently growing exponentially.

With uncontrolled urban sprawl running rampant in the developing world, there is an ever increasing demand for water-intensive agricultural products, such as meat and other animal products. As development progresses, the resulting water demands of the more affluent urban dwellers will divert water from agriculture uses. Consequently, the poor in both rural and out-lying urban areas, are being financially outpaced and ignored by members of the growing middle class, and are increasingly unable to afford and denied their basic God-given water needs. World Hunger reports at present, "more than 1.3 billion people live in abject poverty, earning only a dollar a day or less per person; another 2 billion people are only marginally better off."

The World Bank and the United Nations have commissioned studies and research groups to evaluate current water shortage conditions, determine future requirements, and formulate strategies for solving this seemingly insurmountable water crisis. They have concluded, "that even with major improvements in water collection and distribution (that would provide 70 percent efficiency instead of the current average of 45 percent worldwide), there would still be a need for 20 percent more water, a prediction that has been termed the "world water gap."

Since most of the currently available water sources have already been appropriated (or misappropriated), "there are practical limits to how much additional water can be extracted from the environment." Most experts agree that, even at the current rate at which new water supplies are developed and if sustained over the next few decades, there would still remain serious water shortages by the year 2025.

One out of three Americans are sick (colds, flu, sore throat, allergies, high blood pressure, kidney or gull stones, you name it...) and the World Health Organization states that the majority of disease in the world is a result either the water we drink or the lack of sufficient quantities. Since water is the second most important element on earth next to air, should not we take care in its quality? We worry more about our bank book than we do about our health.

It gets all sorts of yellow goo out of the water but it smells funny. Why is that? It is stainless steel not the plastic model. I don't know if it is healthy to drink. Has anyone else had this problem?

Reverse Osmosis Water Filters

Reverse Osmosis utilises a fine membrane to filter water - known as hyperfiltration. This makes the removal of, salts, sugars, bacteria, proteins, dyes, particles, and other harmful components possible.

A semi-permeable membrane is used in reverse osmosis. This allows the water to pass through whilst the contaminants are removed.

Reverse osmosis units can use between 2-3 gallons of water to make 1 gallon up to as much as 10 gallons of water or more, to make 1 gallon of pure water.

Water purified by reverse osmosis is less acidic than tap or bottled water.

I add up all the dots here and isn't it funny that Sodium Fluoride goes to the most important gland in the brain? It's the only thing that attacks the most important center of our gland in the brain. It's prevalent in foods, beverages and in our bath and drinking water. Sodium Fluoride is put in 90% of the United States water supply. Water filters you buy in supermarkets do not take the fluoride out. Only reverse osmosis or water distillation. The cheapest way is to buy a water distiller.

To understand how pure is distilled water; let us start from basics. Water distillers operate on distillation process where the temperature of impure water is increased to boiling point and all the water vapors are collected in other container. The condensed water vapors results in so-called pure water.
